After getting embarrassingly swept in the first round by Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Phoenix Suns look as though they have some huge decision to make in the offseason. Among which could be related to the head-coaching position.
The Suns still have Frank Vogel as their head coach, but it remains to be seen whether he’d still be calling the shots for the team once the 2024-25 NBA season rolls around. According to The Arizona Republic’s Duane Rankin, the Suns could be handing down a verdict on what they would do with Vogel.
The Phoenix Suns are expected to make a decision on head coach Frank Vogel “soon,” sources have informed The Republic.
Team owner Mat Ishbia said last Wednesday at a news conference he would look to evaluate the team, with Vogel being a major part of that process.
Despite the Big Three of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal in the fold, the Suns’ title dreams this season crashed and burned right in the first round of the playoffs. While the debacle in the postseason shouldn’t be entirely blamed on Vogel, coaches are often a convenient scapegoat in the NBA.
Vogel was hired to coach the Suns in 2023 as Monty Williams’ successor. In his first (and potentially only) campaign at the helm in Phoenix, Vogel’s Suns went 49-33 in the regular season.
